I need a foot pedal that is Mac compatible, and found 2 models from NCH Swift Sound. They come with the Express Scribe Transcription software free-- does anyone have any experience with these models?

I have found NCH to be a wonderful company. I've never had any experience with MACs. I checked on the MT sites I read and I cant find anything their either. But my gut would tell me that the company is ok, so you should be fine. I have used their other products and found them great.

would you mind posting the "specs" for the pedals? - although the big question - is it compatible with Express Scribe - is already answered Smile

I can hopefully answer whether or not the pedal would be useful for other players you might run across in the biz....

NCH supports 2 pedals from 2 manufacturers, and I can't seem to find those manufacturers' websites to get more detailed information. One major difference between the two seems to be the layout of the pedals. VEC's is (l to r) fwd, play/pause, rew, and VPE's is the opposite. Do you have any feedback on which layout is more user-friendly?

One is from VEC:
FPVECUSB
FPVECDB9
These high quality VEC foot pedals connect to your Windows PC or MAC OS X to control dictation player software such as Express Scribe Transcription Software. There are three pedal controls which are usually setup for rewind (right), play/pause (center) and fast-forward (left). VEC foot pedals are available with USB or serial port (DB9) connections.

One is from VPE:

FPVPEDB9

The VEC looks more traditional, but it seems like either would work fine. Mostly, since they both work with Express Scribe, they are likely going to work with a lot of other platforms.

Remember that in most cases, if your footpedal is not compatible with a particular company's software, they will often "rent" you one or even just give you one for use as long as you work there. Rent has been $5 a month each time I have had to do that. That was before I got my own footpedal though. Since then, mine has been compatible with all the platforms I have worked with.
